The compititors of the Civic Type R are the Golf R, Focus RS, and WRX STI. Maybe even the RS3 and the A45 AMG

The base Golf R is 30,000 british pounds

The Type R seems to be 30,000 british pounds with an extra 2500 pounds for a GT version

The WRX STI is about 28,000 pounds

The Focus RS will be "just under 30,000 pounds"

RS3 will probs be about 40,000 pounds

and the A45 AMG is about 38,000 pounds

The Civic Type R isn't really "off" pricing. It seems to be average pricing for a super hot hatch, this isn't a big deal. The Subaru and Focus will be cheaper, and the Audi and Benz will be much more money. Granted the Audi and Benz probably have more luxury features, this still puts the Honda at an average hot hatch price.

That's not Honda's fault, cars here are just crazy expensive. The Type R is more or less in line with it's competitors. For reference my Panda cost somewhere in the region of $19'000 new.

The Type R will most likely cost the same as the Golf R.

So about 40 grand.

Does put things into perspective, but at the end of the day we're comparing a Civic (albeit super turned race Civic) to the likes of Audi and Benzo, or the best of Ford and Subaru.

I just have a really hard time rationalizing that much for a Civic. When/if it does come state-side and say retails at $40k.. that's still a lot of money. I guess it's a watered down example of the Top Gear LFA review where they discuss the price vs other super cars and they make the comment about "would the owner of the Lexus..." but instead now it's "I spent $40k on a Civic "

It'll be interesting so see how things play out though.

It's not really useful to convert the MSRP to US from Pounds without more information about their economy. What would be useful would be seeing how this at that price stacks up against other offerings in their market.

Kinja'd!!!

Given that you can get an STI for £4k less, and you get AWD...I'm calling CP.

Direct currency conversions aren't really doable. Yes, I mean, you can actually do them. But they're pretty meaningless. All too often you see products (not just vehicles) being sold for 100 Euros or 100 Pounds, only to be sold in the U.S. for 100 dollars as well. Is that a straight conversion? Hell no, but that's just how it works.

If the Type-R ever came to the U.S., you can bet your ass it won't be anywhere near that cost.

Americans are used to prices ex tax so they're not allowing for the UK price to include your 20% VAT.

But is a Civic really any different from a Focus? Or a Golf? They are all economy compacts and between the Focus and Civic, competing for the most sold compacts in the entire world.

It's probably just the backlash Civics get because of bros, or because this is how our first Type R, but a Civic isn't really different from a Focus or Golf at all.

Saying I spent 40k on a Civic isn't really different from saying I spent 40K on a Golf or a Focus. They are all econbox compacts that have been hot-ified

I think you're right. The history of the civic has been pretty tarnished by autozone modding and generally sub par culture association. Maybe this will be part of Honda's renaissance and time to put behind the history of Fast n Furious Civics.

Speaking of which FF7 comes out in a few days. Awesome.

You're doing it wrong. It's useless to convert british pounds to american dollars to get a price. If that were the case the Focus ST would cost us 33k for a base model.
